- Release: the original Dark Souls launched on Xbox 360 in 2011 (US), developed by FromSoftware. This page tracks that 360 release, not the PlayStation 3 version.
- Product code & saves: check the product code on the disc and case matches the US (NTSC-U/C) release. Where saves live is not something this page documents, so don't pay extra for a seller's save claims.
- Not to be confused with: Dark Souls II and its Scholar of the First Sin edition also shipped on Xbox 360, and plenty of listings use near-identical titles. The feed requires the first game's title and rejects sequel numerals, but check the cover before buying a photo-light listing.

Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
