How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one model. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different model that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 68 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 45 of 68 (~66%) for quality reasons. The remaining 23 are what we'd actually surface.
- 31 listed in the wrong eBay category (an accessory or part, not the item)
- 7 missing a required keyword group (e.g. completeness / authenticity)
- 4 priced above the curated ceiling
- 3 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for MacBook Pro M4 Max 16 returns far more than the model itself: chargers, cases, replacement screens, logic boards and locked machines all mention it in their titles. These are the 21 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to MacBook Pro M4 Max 16 because they are: that's the noise.

MacBook Pro 16 M4 Max: buyer & reseller spec sheet
Identify the exact model from the machine, not the title. Open About This Mac: the chip should read "Apple M4 Max", not "Apple M4 Pro", and the screen should be the 16-inch panel. A 14-inch M4 Max is a separate machine at a different price, and some 14-inch titles still mention a "16-core" CPU, so check the screen size in the photos or item specifics, not just a number in the title.
Configurations move the price more than condition does. Listings for this model come with different CPU and GPU core counts, memory sizes and storage sizes, and asking prices spread widely with them. More unified memory, a larger SSD and the higher core counts raise the price. Compare like for like before calling something a deal, because memory and storage can't be upgraded later.
Traps we saw while tuning. Used listings that say "screen issue", "keyboard issue" or "read description" are flawed machines that may be priced as if they were fine; this feed drops the first two phrases, so read the description on any unit that still looks cheap. Some sellers also add "MDM" notes in the title, a management lock to rule out before you buy. Accessories that name the M4 Max, such as sleeves and cases, appear in the same search and are kept out.
Buying a used MacBook Pro: what to check
These checks apply to every model on our MacBook Pro pages. The item notes above cover what is specific to this model.
Used
- Ask for a photo of the About This Mac screen showing the chip, memory and storage. Configurations of one model differ a lot in price.
- Ask the seller to confirm Find My is turned off and the Mac is signed out of their Apple ID. An Activation-Locked Mac can't be set up without the previous owner.
- Ask whether it was a company or school machine. A Mac enrolled in remote management (MDM) can lock itself to that organisation after a reset.
- For a laptop, ask for the battery cycle count and condition from System Information, and check the photos for screen coating wear and dents on the corners.
Refurbished
- Find out who refurbished it (Apple or a third party) and how long the warranty is.
- Enter the serial number on Apple's coverage check page to confirm the model and any remaining coverage.
New
- Check the box is sealed and the serial on the box matches the listing, then check coverage with Apple once it arrives.
- Very low prices on "new" Macs from new seller accounts are the most common scam on this category.
