Used 12GB vs 16GB Graphics Cards on eBay: Which Cards, What They Cost, What to Watch For

More people now shop for a used graphics card by memory size first and model second. Newer games at high texture settings can use more than 8GB, and running AI models locally depends on how much VRAM a card has. So "used 12GB GPU" and "used 16GB GPU" are real searches, and eBay doesn't handle them well: VRAM isn't a reliable filter there, and several cards are sold under the same name with different amounts of memory.

This post covers which cards fall into each group, what used ones are listed for, and the memory mix-ups to check for before you buy.

Which cards have 12GB, and which have 16GB

These are the common desktop cards you'll find used on eBay in each group. It isn't every card ever made, just the ones that turn up regularly.

12GB

  • NVIDIA RTX 3060 12GB (there is also an 8GB RTX 3060)
  • NVIDIA RTX 3080 12GB (most RTX 3080s are 10GB)
  • NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti
  • NVIDIA RTX 4070, 4070 Super and 4070 Ti
  • AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT and RX 6750 XT
  • Intel Arc B580

16GB

  • AMD Radeon RX 6800, RX 6800 XT, RX 6900 XT and RX 6950 XT
  • AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7600 XT
  • NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti 16GB (there is also an 8GB version)
  • NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super, RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 Super
  • NVIDIA RTX A4000 (a workstation card, single-slot)
  • Intel Arc A770 16GB (there is also an 8GB version)

If you need more than 16GB, the used options jump to 24GB: the RTX 3090, RTX 4090 and RX 7900 XTX.

What used ones are listed for

These are median asking prices for used cards from US eBay sellers in our used GPU price index, as of October 20, 2026. They are asking prices, not sold prices, and they move. Open a card's page for today's numbers.

Card VRAM Used median asking price Typical range
RTX 3060 12GB 12GB $330 $300–$350
RX 6700 XT 12GB $350 $311–$379
RTX 4070 12GB $560 $520–$600
RTX 3080 Ti 12GB $600 $550–$660
RX 6800 XT 16GB $430 $399–$445
RTX A4000 16GB $900 $870–$995

Two things stand out in that snapshot. The cheapest way into 12GB is the RTX 3060 12GB or the RX 6700 XT. And the RX 6800 XT was being listed for less than the RTX 4070, while having more memory. That doesn't make it the better card for everyone, since NVIDIA cards have advantages in some software, but if VRAM is what you're shopping for, it's worth comparing them.

The RTX A4000 costs more than its gaming performance suggests because it's a workstation card: single-slot, low power and in demand for compact servers and AI builds. If you're buying for games, a gaming card with 16GB costs less.

Same name, different memory

This is where buyers get caught. The model name in a title doesn't tell you the memory size, and some sellers leave the memory size out.

RTX 3060: 12GB or 8GB. The 8GB RTX 3060 came later and has a narrower memory bus as well as less memory. A listing titled just "RTX 3060" could be either. Look for "12GB" in the title, item specifics or photos of the box or sticker before you pay a 12GB price.

RTX 3080: 10GB or 12GB. Most RTX 3080s are 10GB. The 12GB version is a slightly different card. A listing that says "RTX 3080 12GB" might also be a 3080 Ti with a sloppy title. We wrote about how eBay search mixes up the 3080 and the 3080 Ti.

RTX 4060 Ti and Arc A770: 8GB or 16GB. Both were sold in two memory sizes under the same name, and the 8GB versions are much more common used.

"RTX 3080 16GB" is a laptop. No desktop RTX 3080 has 16GB, but the laptop version does. A listing with that memory size is a laptop, a laptop system board or an MXM module. See laptop GPUs listed as desktop graphics cards for the rest of those tells.

Memory sizes that don't exist at all. Some boards have been modified with larger memory chips, such as an RTX 2080 Ti with 22GB. They can work, but they need a modified BIOS and drivers can be unpredictable, so they aren't a drop-in card. If the memory size in the title isn't one the card was ever sold with, treat it as modified.

How to check a listing's memory before you buy

  1. Read the item specifics. eBay has a "Memory Size" field. It's filled in by the seller, so use it as a check against the title, not as proof.
  2. Look at the photos. The box, the sticker on the back of the card, or a screenshot of GPU-Z all show the memory size. A listing that uses only stock photos can't show you any of them.
  3. Ask the seller for a GPU-Z screenshot if the memory size matters to you. An honest seller with the card in hand can do it in a minute.
  4. Check it again when it arrives. Run GPU-Z and confirm the model and memory size match the listing. If they don't, that's a "not as described" return under eBay's Money Back Guarantee.

Getting alerts for the right memory size

On eBay, a saved search for "RTX 3060" will alert you about both memory sizes, plus laptops. Each graphics card in our price index has its own search, tuned to drop laptop GPUs, sibling models, parts-only cards and multi-card lots, so its prices and live listings reflect the card the page is about.

You can set up a free alert from any of those card pages, with your own maximum price and condition, and get a message about new listings that match.
