How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 70 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 62 of 70 (~89%) for quality reasons. The remaining 8 are what we'd actually surface.
- 33 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 13 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 12 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 3 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Sonic R (Saturn) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 97 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Sonic R (Saturn) because they are: that's the noise.

Sonic R: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & saves. Sonic R is a 1997 Saturn racer from Sonic Team and Traveller's Tales. It also shipped on PC, and the PC version is filtered out of this feed. Saves go to Saturn backup memory rather than a battery in the disc, so there is no battery to worry about.
- US vs Japanese disc. The Japanese release is far cheaper than the US one, and the Saturn is region-locked, so a Japanese disc will not boot on a US console without a modchip or a region-free cart. Many Japanese copies are sold from US-based sellers with "US seller" in the title. This page excludes Japanese listings by title wording and by item location, but a title that never says "Japan" can still slip through. Check the photos for the region marking on the case and the disc.
- Prints. Check the product code on the disc and spine against the US release and compare against a known-good listing. If a seller claims a variant or reprint, ask for photos of the label rather than taking the claim on trust.
- Sister titles. Sellers often bundle it with other Saturn racers and platformers, such as NiGHTS into Dreams. Bundles are excluded here, so look at those pages for the other games.
Buying Sega Saturn games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Saturn disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
