Sonic Adventure: collector & reseller spec sheet
Sega released Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast in North America in 1999. The Dreamcast is region-locked, so a Japanese or PAL disc is a different release from the US copy this page tracks. The VMU stores progress, not the disc, so a disc-only listing carries no save data.
- Print variants. An original-run print and a later Sega All Stars budget reprint both circulate. In our tuning sample, All Stars copies were common and asked in the same range as the original print, so that label alone isn't a reason to pay more. Sealed copies ask far above everything else.
- Check the product code. Confirm the code on the disc label matches the US release before paying for a copy that shows only the disc.
- Not for Resale copies. Not-for-resale versions show up under the plain game title, some listed as complete. Confirm what disc you're getting before paying a complete-copy price.
- Listings that aren't the game. While tuning we saw a different game's disc sold in a Sonic Adventure case, plus manual-only, strategy-guide and case-and-cover-only listings, all carrying the full title. The feed drops them.
- Not to be confused with. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is a separate GameCube game, and Sonic Adventure 2 is a separate Dreamcast release; the feed excludes both.
Buying Dreamcast games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Dreamcast disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
