AMD Ryzen 9 5900X — Price Guide & Live Deals

The Ryzen 9 5900X is AMD's 12-core, 24-thread desktop processor for the AM4 socket. Many AM4 owners look at it as an upgrade because it drops into the board they already have. On eBay, a "5900X" search also returns the 5900XT, other Ryzen 9 chips for both AM4 and AM5, whole gaming PCs, and CPU-and-motherboard combos. This page filters a live eBay feed down to single 5900X processors from US sellers with established feedback.

Which Ryzen 9 5900X you're actually buying

The 5900XT is a different chip. Its name is the 5900X plus one letter, and it lists right next to it, sometimes at a similar price. The 5900XT listings behind this page all describe it as a 16-core chip, so it isn't simply a renamed 5900X. Check the Processor Model field in the item specifics and the model printed on the chip in the photos. If you'd actually prefer the 5900XT, compare the two on their own merits rather than assuming one is a faster 5900X.

Other Ryzen 9 chips aren't this one either. The Ryzen 9 5950X is the 16-core chip in the same family. The older Ryzen 9 3900X is also a 12-core AM4 chip, from the previous generation. The Ryzen 9 7900X and 9900X are 12-core chips too, but they're for AMD's newer AM5 socket and won't fit an AM4 motherboard. Titles that list several chip names at once (common on "AM4 CPU" listings that let you pick a model) are excluded, because you can't tell which chip the price is for.

Part number. The listings behind this page quote the part number 100-000000061, in the title or in the MPN field. If a listing quotes a different part number, ask the seller which chip it is.

Use the item specifics, but trust the photos. In the listings we checked, the item specifics named the chip, the AM4 socket, 12 cores and 64 MB of L3 cache. Not every seller fills those fields in, so the photo of the chip itself is the evidence that settles it.

Used vs refurbished vs new Ryzen 9 5900X

Used is most of this market. Used CPUs are usually sold as the bare chip, sometimes with the original box. Whether the box comes with it accounts for part of the price spread within Used.

Refurbished listings were absent when this page was built. If one appears, ask who refurbished it and what the warranty covers. A processor has little to refurbish, so the warranty is most of what you're paying for.

New and Open box listings were present but few. Compare a New asking price against the Used table before paying for the seal: the gap between the two is what the seal is costing you. For open box, ask why it was opened.

What this Ryzen 9 5900X feed filters out, and why

Every pattern below showed up in the live listing data while this page's filter was being built.

Whole PCs. Gaming towers and prebuilt desktops built around a 5900X list under the processor's name, because the CPU is the headline part. They're excluded by title wording and by the price ceiling.

CPU-and-motherboard combos. Some listings sell the chip with a motherboard. They're excluded because the price covers more than the processor.

Sellers outside the US. Some of the 5900X supply ships from overseas. This feed only shows US-located sellers. It also requires established seller feedback and excludes listings openly sold as broken, untested, for parts, delidded, or with bent or missing pins.

Ryzen 9 5900X: before you buy

Any condition. Confirm your motherboard supports the 5900X before you buy. Older AM4 boards may need a BIOS update first, so check your board maker's CPU support list for your exact model. The 5900X has no integrated graphics, so you'll need a separate graphics card. Don't assume a cooler is included; the listing should say what's in the box.

Used. AM4 processors have their pins on the chip itself, and a bent pin is the most common way a used CPU goes wrong. Ask for sharp, close-up photos of the pin side, not stock images. Check that it will ship in a clamshell or foam, not loose in an envelope. Ask whether the seller tested it in a working system, and confirm they accept returns.

Refurbished. Establish who refurbished it and what the warranty is, as above.

New / Open box. Ask for photos of the seal and the box label showing the part number.

On price. Read the price table by condition bucket rather than anchoring on the single lowest number in the feed. A cheap listing is more often a chip without its box, or a seller with less history, than a bargain on the same processor.
