How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 290 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 253 of 290 (~87%) for quality reasons. The remaining 37 are what we'd actually surface.
- 218 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 13 shipped from a region we exclude
- 8 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 6 priced above the curated ceiling
- 4 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 3 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Tales of Symphonia (GameCube) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 104 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Tales of Symphonia (GameCube) because they are: that's the noise.

Tales of Symphonia: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Two discs, memory-card saves. The US GameCube release from Namco ships on two discs in one case and saves to a GameCube memory card. A "complete" copy needs both discs; check the photos for Disc 1 and Disc 2, because single-disc listings are common and often aren't priced much below a full set.
- Original print vs Player's Choice. Sellers describe the first retail print as "Black Label" and the later budget reprint as Player's Choice, which has the Player's Choice banner on the cover. Collectors usually pay a little more for the original print; for playing, the two are the same game. Check the cover art photo rather than the title text, since sellers mix the two terms up.
- Japanese copies listed by US sellers. The game came out in Japan first (2003), and Japanese discs regularly show up from US-based sellers as "US Seller", "Region Locked" or just with a 2003 date. A US GameCube won't run them without a region workaround. Look for the English cover and the ESRB rating on the back. This feed drops titles that say Japanese, JPN or NTSC-J and anything shipping from Japan, but a bare listing can still get through.
- Strategy guides and console sets. The BradyGames guide, Japanese guide books and the Tales of Symphonia console packs all share the title text. They're kept off the feed, so watch for them only when you search eBay directly.
Buying GameCube games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every GameCube disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
