Live eBay listings for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Nintendo GameCube: the US-NTSC retail disc Nintendo released in North America in March 2003. It was developed by Nintendo EAD under director Eiji Aonuma. The feed doesn't include the 2013 Wii U remake, The Wind Waker HD. That is a different disc for different hardware, but it shares every word of the title, so the feed filters wii u and the whole word hd.

Wind Waker is a high-volume first-party GameCube title, so there are plenty of listings in every condition. Most of the price spread comes from completeness (disc only, disc with case, full CIB) and from print run (original Black Label vs the Player's Choice reprint), not from scarcity.

Wind Waker variants worth knowing

• Original US print ("Black Label"). The 2003 full-price release. "Black Label" is collector shorthand for copies without the Player's Choice branding. It isn't an official Nintendo name. Sellers who put "Black Label" in the title usually price a little above an equivalent Player's Choice copy.
• Player's Choice reprint. Nintendo's budget reprint line. The case art carries Player's Choice branding. The disc is the same game. The feed shows both prints together, and the chip filter doesn't separate them, so check the case photos if the print matters to you.
• Not For Resale copies. A few listings are marked "Not For Resale". These were distributed outside normal retail. They pass through the feed, but check what exactly is being sold before paying a premium.
• The preorder bonus disc. US preorders came with a separate bonus disc, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. Listings that pair Wind Waker with that disc ask far more than a plain CIB, so the feed filters bonus disc, master quest and ocarina to keep Wind Waker's own prices clean. Wind Waker: loose vs CIB vs sealed

Loose copies are the cheapest way in. A GameCube disc is an 8 cm (3-inch) optical disc. Loose prices mostly depend on the state of the data side (scratches, signs of resurfacing), on whether the seller has actually tested the disc, and on whether a manual comes with it. "Disc + manual, no case" listings show up often. They usually land in the Loose bucket and should cost less than a full CIB.

CIB is the biggest bucket for Wind Waker. A complete copy includes the disc, the original GameCube case, the printed cover-art insert in the case's clear sleeve, and the instruction manual, along with whatever Nintendo paperwork was packed with that print run. CIB prices vary with case condition (cracked hinges, broken disc hubs, price-sticker residue), insert condition (creases, fading), and whether the manual is present and undamaged. Titles that say "all inserts" or "true CIB" are claims, so check them against the photos.

Sealed copies sit well above CIB. Ungraded sealed copies (often Player's Choice reprints) appear regularly. Graded copies from WATA, VGA, CGC or PSA are listed too. The feed applies a price cap, so ungraded and lower-tier graded copies appear while high-grade slabs trade above that and don't show up here. That cap is deliberate, not an oversight.

Saves: GameCube uses memory cards, not batteries

GameCube discs don't store saves. Your progress goes to a GameCube Memory Card in the console, which is sold separately. So there is no save battery to worry about on a used Wind Waker. A "battery replaced" claim on a GameCube listing is a red flag about the seller, not a feature. Budget for a memory card if you don't already have a working one.

Spotting counterfeit Wind Waker discs

Any disc press can make a playable copy of a GameCube disc, and Wind Waker sells for enough to be worth counterfeiting. The feed excludes listings whose own titles say repro, reproduction, aftermarket or repo. A dishonest seller calling a fake "authentic" will still get through, so the physical checks are up to you:

• Data side colour. Authentic Nintendo-pressed GameCube discs have an even silver data side. Recordable media often shows a purple, blue or gold tint, which strongly suggests a burned copy.
• Label print quality. Compare the label face against a known-authentic photo of a Wind Waker disc. Look for blurry print, colours out of alignment, or washed-out colour.
• Real-hardware testing. Ask whether the disc was played past the title screen on a GameCube or a GameCube-compatible Wii, not just booted.
• Case and insert (CIB). An authentic case doesn't make the disc authentic. Reproduction cover inserts are also sold to people assembling CIBs from parts, so compare the print quality and back-of-box layout with reference photos.

Ask for a clear photo of the disc's data side, a close-up of the label, and (for CIB) the case spine and back. A loose disc priced far below the rest of the feed is the biggest warning sign.

Wind Waker verification checklist by condition

Loose

• Silver data side, no recordable-media tint, compared against an authentic reference photo.
• Crisp, well-aligned label print.
• "Tested" should mean played on real hardware, not just booted.
• Resurfaced discs are fine if they play, but a "mint" disc described elsewhere in the listing as "polished" or "resurfaced" has had some material removed.

CIB

• Original GameCube case with an intact disc hub and hinges.
• A printed (not photocopied) cover insert that matches reference photos. Check whether the spine shows Black Label or Player's Choice.
• An original manual, not a reprint.
• All the Loose checks still apply to the disc itself.

Sealed

• For graded copies, check the grading house and the certificate number.
• Ungraded sealed copies carry reseal risk: a disc put back into an opened case and re-wrapped. Compare the wrap and seams with authentic sealed reference photos, and treat an ungraded "sealed" copy priced like a CIB with suspicion.

Wind Waker buying gotchas

• The HD remake. The Wind Waker HD for Wii U shows up in every Wind Waker search. The feed filters it out, but if you're shopping elsewhere, check the platform on the case.
• Bonus-disc pairings. Wind Waker + Ocarina of Time Master Quest listings ask far more than Wind Waker alone. This feed filters them out. If you see one elsewhere, remember you're paying for two discs.
• Parts sold alone. Case-only, manual-only and inserts-only listings are common because people rebuild CIBs from parts. The feed filters listings whose titles say so (case only, box only, manual only, booklet only, inserts only, no game, no disc), but check the photos to confirm a disc is included.
• Strategy guides and Nintendo Power inserts. The official guides and the Nintendo Power promo material from that era contain the full game title. The feed filters strategy guide, prima, official guide, guide book and nintendo power.
• Multi-game lots. Wind Waker often comes bundled with other first-party GameCube games, including other Zelda titles, Metroid Prime, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Mario Sunshine. The feed filters lot, bundle and set wording plus the common companion titles, so Wind Waker's own prices stay accurate.
• The year in the title. Many listings say "(Nintendo GameCube 2009)" or another year that isn't 2003. That usually comes from the eBay catalog entry the seller picked. It doesn't tell you which print you're getting, so check the case spine.
• Japanese and PAL copies. The feed excludes titles that mention Japan or PAL, and it excludes sellers located in Japan, Hong Kong or China. Some Japanese copies are listed with a plain English title, which is why the location block exists.
• Problems mentioned only in the description. The feed reads titles, not descriptions. A listing can say "untested / sold as is" only in the body text and still appear here, especially at the high end. Read the description before you buy.
• Seller feedback floor. The feed only shows sellers with at least 50 feedback and 99% positive, which removes a lot of throwaway accounts selling suspiciously cheap copies.
