- Product code & saves. The North American release is a 2005 NTSC-U/C disc. Check that the product code on the disc and case spine matches the US release; Japanese copies carry a code ending in
JPN. Saves go to a GameCube memory card, so there's no battery to fail. Trading with Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed or LeafGreen needs a Game Boy Advance and the GameCube link cable, neither of which comes with the game. - The poster. Many complete-copy listings call out a poster as part of the set, and some say "no poster". If you're paying a complete-copy price, check the photos for it. Poster-only, case-only and insert-only listings turn up all the time under the full game title. This feed drops them.
- The console shares the name. A silver Pokemon XD edition GameCube console was sold, and its listings use the game's title word for word. This feed drops console listings, so the price table tracks the disc alone.

- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
