How we filter

Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.

Of the 157 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 117 of 157 (~75%) for quality reasons. The remaining 40 are what we'd actually surface.

  • 55 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
  • 46 shipped from a region we exclude
  • 7 caught by a junk-listing guard
  • 4 seller had too few feedback ratings
  • 3 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
  • 1 priced above the curated ceiling
  • 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low

What the feed excludes

An eBay search for Metroid Zero Mission (GBA) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 93 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Metroid Zero Mission (GBA) because they are: that's the noise.

Metroid Zero Mission: collector & reseller spec sheet

  • Product code and saves. Japanese copies carry a BMXJ code on the label (AGB-BMXJ-JPN), and those are filtered out of this feed. Check that the label on a US copy reads USA. Many sellers list carts as "save battery works" or "new battery". Ask the seller whether the cart holds a save before paying extra for a "tested" copy.
  • Print variants. "Not for Resale" copies turn up next to the retail release. The feed drops them, so the prices here are for standard retail copies. Ask the seller what's different about a copy before you pay extra for a variant claim.
  • The multicart trap. The most common junk in this search is a "Metroid Zero Mission & Metroid Fusion" cart, listed as Brand New for a fraction of what a real copy costs. Nintendo never released the two games on one cartridge, so it isn't an authentic product. The feed drops every listing that names Fusion. Real two-game listings go with it, so the numbers here are for Zero Mission alone. For the sequel, see Metroid Fusion.
  • Re-pro and too-cheap copies. Some reproduction carts are labelled "Re-po" or "Recreation", and the feed drops those. Unlabelled cart-only copies listed far below the usual asking range are another warning sign, so check the label and board photos before you buy.

Buying Game Boy Advance games: what to check by condition

These checks apply to every Game Boy Advance cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.

Loose

  • Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
  • Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
  • If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.

CIB (complete in box)

  • Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
  • Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
  • Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".

Sealed & graded

  • For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
  • For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
  • Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
