How we filter

Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.

Of the 21 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 9 of 21 (~43%) for quality reasons. The remaining 12 are what we'd actually surface.

  • 3 seller had too few feedback ratings
  • 3 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
  • 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
  • 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
  • 1 shipped from a region we exclude

What the feed excludes

An eBay search for Mario Golf: Advance Tour (GBA) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 109 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mario Golf: Advance Tour (GBA) because they are: that's the noise.

What this Mario Golf: Advance Tour page covers

Live eBay listings for Mario Golf: Advance Tour on Game Boy Advance, the US-NTSC cartridge. Camelot developed it and Nintendo published it in 2004. Like Mario Golf on Game Boy Color, it is built around a role-playing mode where you train your own golfer through club tournaments, alongside regular Mario-cast golf.

The feed is scoped to the Game Boy Advance cart. The GameCube's Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, the N64 Mario Golf, the Game Boy Color game and the Japanese release are filtered out (more on that last one below).

Use the condition chips above the deal grid to sort what comes through:

  • Loose means cartridge only. Most listings are this, and it's what most players buy.
  • CIB (complete in box) means the cartridge plus the original box and instruction manual, with whatever inserts came in the box.
  • Sealed means factory-sealed or graded copies. They show up regularly for this title but ask far more than a copy to play.

The price table shows asking prices from active US listings. They are what sellers want, not what copies sold for. Use them as a starting point for negotiating, not as an appraisal.

Mario Golf: Advance Tour variants: US cart, Not for Resale, and Japanese GBA Tour

The US retail cart is the standard copy. Some sellers include the cart's product code in the title; check it against the cart label.

"Not for Resale" carts come up often and usually ask more than a standard loose cart. They are listed as complete, working games, and the feed keeps them. Whether the premium is worth it is a collector's call. For playing, a standard US cart is the same game.

The Japanese release is titled Mario Golf: GBA Tour, and Japanese copies make up a large share of what eBay returns for this game. The Game Boy Advance has no region lock, so a Japanese cart works in a US console. Its menus and text are in Japanese, though, and so are its box and manual. It asks much less than the US cart. Some Japanese listings are sold with a Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter.

The feed drops listings that say Japan, Japanese or JPN, listings whose title uses the "GBA Tour" name, and listings shipped from outside the US and Canada. A US-based reseller who titles a Japanese cart "Mario Golf Advance Tour" can still slip through. Before you buy:

  • Read the cart label. Compare it against a known authentic US photo.
  • Check the item specifics. "Region Code: NTSC-J" or a product code ending in "JPN" means it's the Japanese release, whatever the title says.
  • Ask for a title-screen photo if the label photo is blurry or missing.

PAL copies (UK, Europe and Australia) are filtered too, by title words and seller location.

Mario Golf: Advance Tour: loose vs CIB vs sealed

Loose is the cartridge on its own, sometimes in a plastic dust case. Expect some label wear. A loose copy is fine for playing as long as the label is the US one and it saves (see the checklist below).

CIB adds the cardboard box and the instruction manual, plus the standard Nintendo inserts of the era if they survived. Game Boy Advance boxes are thin cardboard and many were crushed or thrown out, so a clean box is most of what you pay extra for over a loose cart. Read the title and photos carefully. "Boxed" or "with manual" is not the same as complete; some boxed listings say outright that the manual is missing. The CIB chip classifies from the listing, so it can't confirm that every piece is there.

Sealed copies ask several times what a CIB copy asks, and graded ones (WATA, CGC) ask more again. Very high-grade graded copies can price above what the feed shows, so check eBay directly if you're shopping at that tier.

Manual-only, box-only and "no game" listings are filtered out, so the feed only shows listings that include the cartridge.

Mario Golf: Advance Tour verification checklist by condition

Loose:

  • Compare the label against a known authentic US photo. Look at the print sharpness, the colors, and the Nintendo seal.
  • Nintendo carts are closed with a security screw. A Phillips screw on the back means the cart has been opened or is a reshell or bootleg. Ask the seller about it.
  • Saves. The game keeps your golfer's progress on the cart. Ask the seller to confirm that a save holds after the console is switched off. Most listings say "tested", but that often means it boots, not that it saves.

CIB:

  • Make sure the box and manual are the US English versions, not a US cart paired with a Japanese or PAL box.
  • Check the box for crushing, tears and sun fading, and the manual for writing or missing pages.
  • Make sure the cart has the same US label as the box.

Sealed:

  • Factory resealing exists for Game Boy Advance games. Unless the copy is graded, compare the seal and seam pattern against known authentic photos, and be wary of sealed copies priced well below other sealed asks.
  • Check the seller's location and the listing's region. Sealed copies from outside North America are PAL or Japanese, and the feed filters them for that reason.

Mario Golf: Advance Tour buying gotchas

  • The Japanese cart with an English listing title is the most common mismatch. See the variants section above.
  • "Mario Golf GBA" alone often means the Japanese GBA Tour cart. The feed requires "Advance" and "Tour" in the title, so listings without them don't show here.
  • Merch and paper. Magazine ads, store display signs, posters and manual-only listings use the same title words. The feed filters these, but read any listing that is far below the loose price.
  • "Untested" or "as is" listings are filtered out, because a dead cart is the usual reason a seller won't test.
  • Two-game listings that pair Advance Tour with Mario Tennis: Power Tour, and other lots, are filtered out. If you want a lot, search eBay directly.

Buying Game Boy Advance games: what to check by condition

These checks apply to every Game Boy Advance cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.

Loose

  • Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
  • Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
  • If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.

CIB (complete in box)

  • Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
  • Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
  • Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".

Sealed & graded

  • For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
  • For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
  • Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
