How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 79 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 35 of 79 (~44%) for quality reasons. The remaining 44 are what we'd actually surface.
- 24 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 6 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 3 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Ace Combat 5 (PS2) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 107 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Ace Combat 5 (PS2) because they are: that's the noise.

Ace Combat 5: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release and saves: Namco's flight-combat game for PlayStation 2, released in North America in 2004. It saves to a memory card, so there is no battery to fail. Confirm the disc is the US NTSC release, since Japanese copies circulate under near-identical titles.
- Print variants: An original release, a Black Label print and a later Greatest Hits budget reprint all show up in listings, and sellers often write only "Ace Combat 5". Asking prices differ by print; check the case and disc label against the print the seller claims.
- Listing traps: Japanese editions are common under this title, often marked "NTSC-J", "JPN" or "Region Locked". Multi-game listings that name Ace Combat 5 alongside other discs, including Ace Combat 04, can look cheap while only one disc is the game you want. Disc-only, manual-only and cover-only listings are common and sit well below complete copies.
Buying PlayStation 2 games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every PlayStation 2 disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
