- Release & saves. Konami published Snake Eater for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. Saves go to a PS2 memory card, so there is no cartridge battery to worry about. Check that the product code on the disc label matches the US release; the US game is NTSC-U/C.
- Print variants. Sellers often call out a "Black Label" copy, and a later budget reprint exists. Black Label is the print listings most often use to justify a higher asking price, so confirm it from the photos rather than the title.
- Not the same product. Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 style listings (a mislabeled or combined title) turn up in searches, and Subsistence is a separate release the feed leaves out. Read the disc and case photos before paying for either.

Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.

Sealed & graded
