- Release & saves. Konami published Sons of Liberty for the PlayStation 2 in 2001. Saves go to a PS2 memory card, so there is no cartridge battery to worry about. Check that the disc label matches the US NTSC-U/C release.
- Print variants. Listings regularly mention "Black Label" and "Greatest Hits" copies alongside the original print. Sellers tend to ask more for Black Label, so confirm it from the photos rather than the title.
- Not the same product. Substance is a separate, expanded release, and listings that name both games are bundles; the feed leaves them out. Read the disc and case photos before paying for either.

Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.

Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
