How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 920 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 785 of 920 (~85%) for quality reasons. The remaining 135 are what we'd actually surface.
- 737 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 18 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 16 shipped from a region we exclude
- 7 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 5 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 2 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Silent Hill 2 (PS2) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 131 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Silent Hill 2 (PS2) because they are: that's the noise.

Silent Hill 2 is Konami's 2001 survival-horror game for the PlayStation 2, developed by the studio fans call Team Silent. It is the second entry in the Silent Hill series. It follows James Sunderland, who goes to the town after getting a letter from his dead wife, and it is still the series' most traded entry on the secondary market. The feed below pulls current eBay listings for the US-NTSC PlayStation 2 release, from sellers with a meaningful feedback history. Use the condition chips (All, Loose, CIB, Sealed) to narrow what's shown. The sections below explain what each tier should include and what to check before you buy.
Which Silent Hill 2 copies the feed shows
The feed covers the US PlayStation 2 disc in both its original retail print and its later Greatest Hits budget reprint. The two are the same game and both show up here. It leaves out:
- The Japanese PS2 release. The PS2 is region-locked, so a Japanese disc won't boot on a US console without modification. Japanese copies are sold under their own subtitles (sellers write Saigo no Uta) and turn up on eBay in large numbers, often titled only "Silent Hill 2 PS2 Software" with no region word. The feed drops them by title text and by item location.
- European PAL copies, including the PAL two-disc special edition sellers list. They don't boot on a US-NTSC PS2 either.
- The 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake. It shares the title exactly but is a separate game for PS5 and PC, so the feed removes PS5/PS4 listings and anything titled "remake".
- Other Silent Hill games on the PS2. Silent Hill 3, Silent Hill 4: The Room, Silent Hill Origins and Shattered Memories all had PS2 releases, and their titles look a lot like this one in search results. They're filtered out so this page's asking prices only cover Silent Hill 2. Multi-game Silent Hill lots are filtered out for the same reason. For a single-game price, buy them separately.
Silent Hill 2: loose vs CIB vs sealed
PS2 games ship in a plastic DVD-style keep case, so the tiers here differ from cartridge-era pages:
- Loose / disc only. The disc with no case or manual, sometimes in a generic replacement case. This is the cheapest way to play the game. Disc condition is what matters: light surface scuffs are normal, and deep scratches or cracks near the center ring can cause read errors.
- CIB (complete in box). The disc, the original case with its printed cover art, and the manual. Many sellers also list a registration card or other paper inserts. "Complete" listings vary in what they actually include, so read the photos rather than trusting the word "CIB". A copy missing the manual usually asks noticeably less than a full set, and the price table below separates the buckets.
- Sealed. A factory-sealed copy that has never been opened. These are scarce and often graded. Graded sealed copies trade in a separate high-end market well above ungraded ones, so expect few or no sealed listings in the feed on any given day.
The price table above the feed shows current asking prices for each bucket. "Greatest Hits" vs original print is a variant within a bucket, not a separate tier. Collectors usually pay more for the original print, but both play the same.
Telling the Silent Hill 2 original print from Greatest Hits
The Greatest Hits reprint carries Sony's "Greatest Hits" branding on the case art. The original print doesn't. If you specifically want the original print, check the front cover and spine in the listing photos instead of relying on the title, since sellers often leave the edition out. If a listing only shows the disc, ask which edition the case is.
Spotting fake Silent Hill 2 discs and cases
Silent Hill 2 is valuable enough that copies on burned discs and reprinted cover art circulate. The feed excludes listings that say "repro", "reproduction", "bootleg" or "custom", but a copy that doesn't say so can still get through. Before you buy:
- Look at the disc's label side. An authentic disc has professionally printed label art. A paper sticker, inkjet print or blank recordable disc is a fake. Compare against a photo of a known-authentic copy.
- Look at the data side. Recordable media has a different color and dye look from a pressed retail disc. Compare it against a reference photo of an authentic disc.
- Check the product code. The code printed on the disc should match the one on the case spine. A mismatch means the disc and case came from different copies.
- Be wary of "fan-made" or custom cover art. Fan-made covers and replacement cases are sold openly for other Silent Hill PS2 games. These are fine as display pieces, but a copy with one isn't original CIB.
Silent Hill 2 checklist by condition
- Loose: Ask for a photo of the data side under good light. Confirm "tested" means the game was played past the opening, not just that it booted. Check that the disc is the US version (the product code and label text should match a US reference photo).
- CIB: Check that the cover art is the original printed insert (not a reprint), the manual is present, and the case is the correct style for the edition. Check cracked case hinges and sun-faded spines in the photos, since both lower value.
- Sealed: The shrink-wrap should look like factory wrap, without loose or heat-shrunk seams. Resealing happens on high-value PS2 games. For graded copies, check the certificate number against the grading company's online lookup.
Silent Hill 2 buying gotchas
- Japanese copies without a region word. The most common mistake on this title. Japanese sellers list PS2 discs as "KONAMI Silent Hill 2 PS2 Software" with no mention of Japan. The feed filters these by item location, but if you're shopping elsewhere on eBay, check the item location and the cover language before buying.
- "Refurbished" and resurfaced discs. Some sellers resurface scratched discs and list them under eBay's refurbished grades. A resurfaced disc can play perfectly well, but collectors treat it as a lower-grade copy, so judge the price by the disc's condition, not the listing's grade.
- Box-only, manual-only and save-file listings. Cases with no disc, loose manuals and memory cards loaded with Silent Hill 2 save data all have the game's title in them. The feed removes the obvious ones. If a price looks too low for a CIB copy, check whether the disc is actually included.
- Bonus extras inflating the price. A copy bundled with a strategy guide or other extras asks more than the game alone. Those listings are filtered out here so the per-condition prices compare like with like.
Buying PlayStation 2 games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every PlayStation 2 disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
