How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 58 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 22 of 58 (~38%) for quality reasons. The remaining 36 are what we'd actually surface.
- 15 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 5 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 105 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (DS) because they are: that's the noise.

Dawn of Sorrow: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Game card, not a disc. It is a Nintendo DS game card. Listings that say "disc only" are just mislabeled loose cards. Confirm the card is fully labeled and plays before paying a "tested" premium.
- US copies only. Check that the label and box show the US release (NTSC-U/C). Japanese copies sell as Akumajo Dracula: Sougetsu no Juujika and PAL copies carry PEGI ratings; both price differently and the feed leaves them out.
- Print variants. An original release and a later budget reprint (listings call it "Konami's Best" or "Greatest Hits") both circulate. Sellers rarely say which they have, so compare photos of the box front and card label against a known copy before paying a premium for either.
- Multi-game cards. Listings of a single "Game Card" naming Dawn of Sorrow alongside Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia show up at a fraction of a real copy's asking price. Treat a card that claims to hold several games as a reproduction.
- Case-and-manual-only listings. Many titles read "Dawn of Sorrow" with the box, manual or insert but no game card. Read the full title for "no game", "manual only" or "case only". The feed drops the ones it can read.
- Not to be confused with the GBA game Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. The other DS Castlevanias have their own pages: Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia.
Buying Nintendo DS games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Nintendo DS cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
