How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 1306 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 1137 of 1306 (~87%) for quality reasons. The remaining 169 are what we'd actually surface.
- 965 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 60 shipped from a region we exclude
- 48 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 27 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 24 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 7 priced above the curated ceiling
- 5 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Pokemon Black (DS) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 114 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Pokemon Black (DS) because they are: that's the noise.

Pokemon Black: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Product code and save. Check the code on the card label in the photos: a US card's code ends in
-USA, while Japanese cards end in-JPN(sellers quoteTWL-IRBJ-JPN). Progress saves to memory on the game card, so there is no save battery to replace. - Release. Black and its pair, White, are the first Unova (Gen 5) games. Japan got them in 2010 and North America in March 2011. Asking prices depend on condition, completeness and proof of authenticity, not on print runs.
- Black vs Black 2. The 2012 sequel, Pokemon Black Version 2, is a separate game that usually asks more, and sellers often write it as "Pokemon Black 2". Read the title and the card label before buying. The feed drops Black 2 listings and Black / White pairs.
- Japanese copies under generic titles. Japan-based sellers list "Nintendo DS Pokemon Black" with no region word, below US asking prices. The feed drops Japan-located listings and region wording, but check the label language on any cheap copy.
- Bootlegs. Most listings here lead with "authentic" because fake Gen 5 cards circulate. Ask for clear photos of both sides of the card, and treat a card priced far below the other loose copies as a warning sign.
- Case-only sellers. Empty cases with the manual sell for a large share of a loose card's price. Make sure the photos show the game card.
Buying Nintendo DS games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Nintendo DS cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
