How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 684 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 441 of 684 (~64%) for quality reasons. The remaining 243 are what we'd actually surface.
- 247 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 62 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 58 shipped from a region we exclude
- 52 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 11 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 9 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 2 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Pokemon Platinum (DS) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 112 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Pokemon Platinum (DS) because they are: that's the noise.

Pokemon Platinum: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Product code and save. The US game card's code ends in
-USA(sellers quoteNTR-CPUE-USA); Japanese cards end in-JPN. Check the code on the card label in the photos. Progress saves to memory on the game card, so there is no save battery to replace. - Release. Platinum is the third Sinnoh game after Diamond and Pearl, with Giratina on the box. Japan got it in 2008 and North America in March 2009. Asking prices turn on condition, completeness and proof of authenticity, not print runs.
- Japanese copies under generic titles. Japan-based sellers list "Pokemon Platinum DS Software" with no region word, well under US asking prices. They run on a US DS, in Japanese. The feed drops Japan-located listings and region wording, but check the label language on any cheap copy.
- Bootlegs. Platinum is one of the most counterfeited DS games. Most listings in this feed lead with "authentic" for that reason. Ask for clear photos of both sides of the card and compare them against a known-authentic US copy. Treat a card priced far below the other loose copies as a warning sign.
- Case-only sellers. Empty cases with the manual and inserts sell at prices close to a loose card. Make sure the photos show the game card.
- Bundles. Diamond / Pearl / Platinum sets are common. Those are separate games, so the feed leaves them out, along with the HeartGold and SoulSilver pairs.
Buying Nintendo DS games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Nintendo DS cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
