How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 36 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 10 of 36 (~28%) for quality reasons. The remaining 26 are what we'd actually surface.
- 7 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 2 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Alleyway (Game Boy) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 104 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Alleyway (Game Boy) because they are: that's the noise.

Alleyway: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release and save: Alleyway is a 1989 Nintendo Game Boy launch-era block-breaker. It is a puzzle/arcade game with no save feature, so there is no save battery to worry about and a working cart is simply a cart that boots.
- Product code: US listings commonly cite a
DMG-AW-USAlabel code. Check that the code on the cart label matches the US release before paying a US price. - Cartridge construction: Original Game Boy carts use a 3.8mm Gamebit security screw. A Phillips-head screw on the back means the cart has been opened, or is a bootleg or reshell.
- Print variants: Retail copies and later reprints may differ, but we can't name a distinguishing mark with confidence. Compare label and back-of-cart photos against a known authentic copy rather than relying on a seller's "first print" claim.
- Listing traps: Standalone manuals, empty boxes and Japanese or European copies carry the same title as the cart. Check that a listing is the US cartridge and not a manual or empty-box listing, and check the seller's photos for the label region. Alleyway also turns up inside multi-game multicart listings and handheld bundles, which the feed filters out so they don't skew asking prices.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
