How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 785 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 764 of 785 (~97%) for quality reasons. The remaining 21 are what we'd actually surface.
- 706 missing a required keyword group (e.g. completeness / authenticity)
- 42 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 9 shipped from a region we exclude
- 3 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 2 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 2 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mario Tennis (Game Boy Color) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 100 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mario Tennis (Game Boy Color) because they are: that's the noise.

Mario Tennis: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Not the N64 game. Camelot's Game Boy Color Mario Tennis is its own game, a tennis title with an RPG-style mode, not a port of the Nintendo 64 Mario Tennis. Sellers do mention "N64" in titles because the cart links to the N64 game through the Transfer Pak, so an N64 mention alone doesn't mean a wrong listing. Its sister game is Mario Golf on Game Boy Color.
- Product code & save. US listings commonly cite the label code
CGB-BM8E-USA; check that a cart's label matches the US release. The game saves to a battery-backed cart. The original save battery is a flat coin cell and 20+ year-old cells routinely fail, so budget for a battery swap whatever the seller claims. "New battery" listings are common and are worth asking about. - Japanese copies. The Japanese release is titled Mario Tennis GB and carries a
-JPNcode. It is region-free hardware-wise, but the text is Japanese and it asks far less than the US cart. The feed filters listings that say Japan or Japanese and items shipped from Japan, but a US reseller who lists it as plain "Mario Tennis Game Boy Color" can slip through. Check the label photo. - Not-for-resale copies. Some sellers list "Not for Resale" copies at a premium. The feed leaves titles that say NFR out, so ask for photos before paying extra on one you find elsewhere.
- Print variants. No variant premium is documented here; treat any "rare print" claim as unverified until the seller shows the label.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
