How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 69 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 52 of 69 (~75%) for quality reasons. The remaining 17 are what we'd actually surface.
- 49 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 2 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Final Fantasy Legend (Game Boy) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 111 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Final Fantasy Legend (Game Boy) because they are: that's the noise.

Final Fantasy Legend: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Not the Japanese SaGa. The US game is the localization of Makai Toushi SaGa, which sellers often list under the Final Fantasy Legend name. The feed filters on Japanese-language terms and Japan-based sellers, but check the label and photos before paying.
- Save mechanism. The cart keeps its save in battery-backed memory. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and 20+ year-old cells routinely fail, so budget for a battery swap whatever the seller claims. "Tested, saves" in the title is a better sign than "works".
- Print variants. Buyer-facing print differences are not something we can state with confidence. Compare the label and product code against a known authentic photo.
- Sequels with near-identical titles. Final Fantasy Legend III shares the name, and the second game is sold as "Final Fantasy Legend II" or "2". Read the numeral before buying; this feed rejects titles naming II, III, 2 or 3.
- Listing traps. Manual-only, map/poster-only and box-only listings carry the full game name and can look like the game at a glance. Complete copies often mention a poster or map, so ask for photos of every piece. Sealed and graded asking prices run far above everything else, and those claims need the usual verification.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
