How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 11 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 6 of 11 (~55%) for quality reasons. The remaining 5 are what we'd actually surface.
- 6 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mole Mania (Game Boy) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 92 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mole Mania (Game Boy) because they are: that's the noise.

Mole Mania: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Save mechanism: the cartridge saves progress to battery-backed memory. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and 20+ year-old cells routinely fail, so budget for a battery swap whatever the seller says. Many listings advertise "new save battery"; that is a fair thing to ask about, not a sign of a bad copy.
- Product code: check that the label's product code matches the US release.
- Print variants: this feed doesn't separate print runs. Ask for a clear photo of the label and back of the cart if a seller is claiming a special print.
- Region trap: the game came out in Japan under a different title, Moguranya. Import carts are often listed as "Mole Mania", so look for the Japanese title or text in the photos. The feed filters Japanese-titled listings and Japan-based sellers, but a plain "Mole Mania" title with Japanese label photos can still get through.
- Manual-only listings: "Mole Mania" titles are often just the instruction manual. Confirm the listing includes the cartridge.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
