How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 16 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 8 of 16 (~50%) for quality reasons. The remaining 8 are what we'd actually surface.
- 3 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 1 shipped from a region we exclude
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Final Fantasy Legend III (Game Boy) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 105 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Final Fantasy Legend III (Game Boy) because they are: that's the noise.

Final Fantasy Legend III: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Not the Japanese SaGa 3. The US release is the 1993 Game Boy cart of SaGa 3: Jikuu no Hasha. Japanese copies of the same game surface constantly under "Final Fantasy Legend III" titles; the feed filters on Japanese-language terms and Japan-based sellers, but check the label and listing photos before paying.
- Save mechanism. The cart keeps its save in battery-backed memory. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and 20+ year-old cells routinely fail, so budget for a battery swap whatever the seller claims. "Tested, saves" in the title is a better sign than "works".
- CIB contents. Complete listings here often mention a map alongside the box and manual. Ask for photos of every piece, since "No Map" and "Cart + Manual" listings are priced very differently from full CIB.
- Print variants. Buyer-facing print differences are not something we can state with confidence. Compare the label and product code against a known authentic photo.
- Listing traps. Manual-only and map/poster-only listings carry the full game name and can look like the game at a glance. Sealed asking prices run far above everything else, and graded or "sealed" claims need the usual verification.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
