How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 2 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 0 of 2 (~0%) for quality reasons. The remaining 2 are what we'd actually surface.
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Sword of Hope (Game Boy) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 93 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Sword of Hope (Game Boy) because they are: that's the noise.

Sword of Hope: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Publisher and era: a Kemco-Seika Game Boy RPG from the early 1990s. Check that the product code on the label matches the US release.
- Sequel confusion: The Sword of Hope II is a separate, much pricier game, and the Japanese "Selection" releases bundle the Japanese versions of both. Read the title and photos for a roman numeral or "II" before you pay a sequel price or assume a bargain. This page's feed keeps the sequel and the Japanese Selection releases out.
- Save battery: the cart is a battery-backed RPG, as the Game Boy RPGs of this era were. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and 20+ year-old cells routinely fail. Budget for a battery swap regardless of seller claims.
- Opened carts: the security screw on Game Boy carts is a 3.8mm Gamebit. A Phillips-head screw on the back means the cart has been opened (battery swap, board work) or is a reshell or bootleg.
- Print variants: an early-run print and later reprints may exist. Treat a "rare" label in a listing title as a claim, not a grade.
- Listing traps: manual-only and booklet-only listings carry the same title as the game, so the photos matter. Pull any listing where the cart is not shown. Spanish-language listings also show up on eBay. Ask what you are getting before you buy.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
