How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 135 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 70 of 135 (~52%) for quality reasons. The remaining 65 are what we'd actually surface.
- 42 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 16 shipped from a region we exclude
- 7 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 4 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Game Boy Color) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 94 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Game Boy Color) because they are: that's the noise.

Zelda: Oracle of Ages: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Product code and saves. The Japanese cart carries product code CGB-AZ8J, and Australian copies are marked AUS. Check that the code on the label is the US release before paying US prices. The game saves to battery-backed memory on the cartridge, and listings regularly say "dry battery" or "needs a battery". A cart with a dead battery still plays but loses its save at power-off, so ask whether a save holds, or budget for a battery swap.
- Ages vs Seasons. Oracle of Seasons is a separate cartridge released alongside it, and the two are often sold as a pair. The feed drops any title that mentions Seasons, so every listing here is Ages alone. If you want both, price them separately.
- The cheap Japanese cart. The Japanese release is a frequent low-priced listing, sometimes titled only in English. The feed drops Japan-located listings and titles that say Japan, Japanese, JP or JPN. If a cheap copy shows no clear label photo, ask for one before you buy.
- Sealed and graded copies. Sealed copies ask many times a loose cart. The feed's price ceiling leaves out the top graded slabs, so the Sealed chip shows raw sealed copies and lower-priced graded ones.
Buying Game Boy games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Game Boy cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
