How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 409 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 255 of 409 (~62%) for quality reasons. The remaining 154 are what we'd actually surface.
- 194 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 30 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 13 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 9 shipped from a region we exclude
- 8 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 130 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Zelda II: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Product code & save. US carts and boxes carry the code
NES-AL-USA, and many listings print it in the title. The game saves to battery-backed memory on the cartridge. A dead battery still lets the game play but won't hold a save, so a cart sold as "tested" only proves it boots unless the seller says the save held. - Gold vs gray cart. The original run is a gold-shell cartridge, like the first Legend of Zelda. A later run came in the standard gray shell, and copies boxed as part of Nintendo's "Classic Series" budget line also turn up loose, CIB and sealed. Gold carts are the collector default; a gray cart is authentic but is a different variant, so price it as one.
- GBA re-release with the same name. "Classic NES Series: Zelda II" is a 2004 Game Boy Advance cart that sellers list with the identical title. It won't play on an NES. Check for GBA or Game Boy Advance in the title and photos.
- Other regions and two-cart lots. PAL, Spanish-language (
NES-AL-ESP) and Famicom Disk System copies circulate under the same name. Zelda 1 + 2 pairs are common too. The feed leaves all of these out so the asking prices reflect single US carts.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
