How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 9 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 5 of 9 (~56%) for quality reasons. The remaining 4 are what we'd actually surface.
- 5 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Rival Schools: United by Fate (PS1) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 93 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Rival Schools: United by Fate (PS1) because they are: that's the noise.

Rival Schools: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release and save: Capcom's 3D tag-team fighter reached North America on the original PlayStation in 1999 as Rival Schools: United by Fate. It saves to a standard PlayStation memory card; there is no cartridge battery to fail.
- Region trap: the Japanese original is titled Shiritsu Justice Gakuen, and a Japan-only follow-up, Evolution 2, also carries the Rival Schools name. Both are NTSC-J discs that will not behave like a US copy on a US console without modification. Many import sellers keep "Rival Schools United by Fate" in the title, so check for NTSC-J, "Japan" or "JP" in the listing and look at the photographed disc and spine. The feed rejects those terms plus Japan-located sellers, but a mislabelled import can still slip through.
- PAL copies: a European release exists as well. The feed rejects listings that say PAL, though an unlabelled one is possible, so confirm the region on the case.
- Print variants: budget reprints of PlayStation titles exist, but we haven't confirmed a specific Rival Schools reprint, so don't pay a premium for one without a clear photo of the case.
- Listing traps: framed promo posters and ad pages use the full game title and show up in search; the feed filters them out. Anything advertised as a "disc only" or "manual only" is excluded as well. A complete copy should show the case, disc and manual together in the photos.
Buying PlayStation games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every PlayStation disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
