How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 355 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 240 of 355 (~68%) for quality reasons. The remaining 115 are what we'd actually surface.
- 189 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 21 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 10 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 7 shipped from a region we exclude
- 5 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 5 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 2 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Final Fantasy IX (PS1) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 117 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Final Fantasy IX (PS1) because they are: that's the noise.

Final Fantasy IX: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Format & save. The US release (Square Electronic Arts, November 2000) ships on four discs in a multi-disc case and saves to a PlayStation memory card. Check the product codes printed on the discs and the spine against the US NTSC-U/C release; the four discs carry their own codes, so a mismatched disc is easy to spot.
- Print variants. The original Black Label print and the later Greatest Hits budget reprint are the two US versions. Black Label copies generally ask more than Greatest Hits in the same condition, and that holds for sealed copies too, where Greatest Hits is the more common find. A title that says "CIB" does not say which print it is, so look at the spine and the disc labels in the photos.
- Partial-disc listings. Single discs and "discs 1, 3 & 4 only" sets are sold constantly, often at prices that look like a cheap loose copy. Count four discs in the photos before you buy, and treat "missing disc" in a description as a dealbreaker.
- Japanese imports. Japanese copies list for a fraction of the US price, sometimes under generic titles like "PlayStation Software". They are region-locked and won't boot on an unmodified US console; the feed screens most of them out, but confirm the NTSC-U/C marking anyway.

Buying PlayStation games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every PlayStation disc. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose (disc only)
- Ask for a clear photo of the data side under light. Light surface scratches usually play; deep or circular scratches often don't.
- Check the label art and the printing in the center ring against a known-authentic disc. Burned copies and reprinted labels are the main fakes.
- "Resurfaced" means the disc was polished. It is usually fine to play but worth less to collectors.
CIB (complete in case)
- Confirm the case, front art and manual are all shown, and that the art matches the disc's region.
- Cracked cases are cheap to replace; missing or reprinted cover art and manuals are what cost money.
- For multi-disc games, make sure every disc is pictured.
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
