- Release and saves: The original Tomb Raider launched on PlayStation in 1996 (Core Design, published by Eidos). It saves to a standard PS1 memory card; there is no cartridge battery to worry about. Check that the disc and manual are the US (NTSC-U/C) release.
- Print variants: An original-run print and a later Greatest Hits budget reprint both exist, and sellers also say "Black Label." Asking prices differ between runs, but check the listing photos rather than trusting the title alone. Sealed copies of the original run are the expensive tier.
- Sequels are separate games: Tomb Raider II, III, Chronicles and The Last Revelation share the franchise name, and sellers often mix them in titles and lots. The feed filters those out, so confirm the disc itself reads plain Tomb Raider.

Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
