How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 97 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 70 of 97 (~72%) for quality reasons. The remaining 27 are what we'd actually surface.
- 61 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 4 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 3 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Army Men: Sarge's Heroes (N64) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 107 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Army Men: Sarge's Heroes (N64) because they are: that's the noise.

Sarge's Heroes: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Publisher & year: published by 3DO for the Nintendo 64 in 1999 (US). Titles often carry "3DO" and the ESRB "T" rating, which is normal.
- Save mechanism & product code: check that the label's product code matches the US release (NUS-...-USA). Don't rely on a seller's word on how it saves; confirm against a known authentic listing photo.
- Print variants: no variant premium is documented for this title. Any "rare" or "first print" claim in a listing should be treated as asking-price hype unless the seller shows the distinguishing mark.
- Trap #1, the sequel: Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2 (2000) is a separate N64 game with near-identical box art and title text, and it dominates eBay search results for this game. This feed rejects titles that say "Heroes 2" (including the "Heroe's 2" and "Heros 2" misspellings), but a sequel listed with no number can still appear. Check the label and the year.
- Trap #2, box and manual only: many listings are an empty box or manual alone. The feed rejects the ones that say so; confirm a cartridge is actually included before buying.
- Trap #3, "compatible" or reproduction carts: some sellers list unlicensed cartridges as "compatible". Those are filtered out when the title says so.
Buying Nintendo 64 games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Nintendo 64 cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
