How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 172 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 106 of 172 (~62%) for quality reasons. The remaining 66 are what we'd actually surface.
- 69 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 17 shipped from a region we exclude
- 13 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 3 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 2 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 2 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mario Golf (N64) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 114 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mario Golf (N64) because they are: that's the noise.

What this Mario Golf page covers
Live eBay listings for Mario Golf on Nintendo 64, the US-NTSC cartridge. Camelot developed it and Nintendo published it in 1999. It's an arcade-style golf game with Mario characters and multiplayer for up to four people. A Game Boy Color game with the same name came out the same year and can link to the N64 game through the Transfer Pak. That handheld version has its own page.
Use the condition chips above the deal grid to sort the feed:
- Loose means the cartridge, sometimes with its manual. Most listings land here.
- CIB (complete in box) means the cartridge, the outer box and the instruction manual, plus the inner tray and inserts if they survived.
- Sealed means factory-sealed or graded copies. They are scarce, so this chip is often empty.
The price table shows asking prices from active US listings. They are what sellers want, not what copies sold for. Use them as a starting point for negotiating, not as an appraisal.
Mario Golf N64 variants: US cart vs Japanese Mario Golf 64
The variant that matters here is regional. In Japan the game was sold as Mario Golf 64, and Japanese copies make up more than half of what eBay returns for "Mario Golf N64". They are the cheapest copies by a wide margin. That's not because they're a bargain. Japanese N64 carts are shaped differently, and a US console's cartridge slot won't take one without an adapter.
The feed drops listings that say Japan, Japanese, JPN or NTSC-J, listings that carry the Japanese product code, and listings shipped from Japan. A US reseller who titles a Japanese cart only "Mario Golf 64 Nintendo 64" can still slip through, because many US sellers use "Mario Golf 64" for the US cart too. Before you buy:
- Look at the cart shape and label. The US cart uses the standard grey US N64 shell with an English "Mario Golf" label. The Japanese cart has a Japanese label reading "Mario Golf 64".
- Check the product code in the photos or item specifics. Codes ending in "JPN" mark the Japanese release. The US release uses a code ending in "USA".
- Check the item specifics. "Region Code: NTSC-J" means it's the Japanese cart, whatever the title says.
Ex-rental copies. Some US carts were rental copies and still carry a store sticker (Blockbuster comes up regularly). They are authentic US carts. Some collectors like them and some don't, so price them on the sticker's condition and the label underneath.
Mario Golf N64: loose vs CIB vs sealed
Loose is the cartridge on its own, or the cartridge plus manual. Asking prices sit in a fairly narrow band, and within it price moves with label condition, how clearly the seller describes testing, and whether the manual comes with it.
CIB asks several times the loose price. A complete copy has the outer cardboard box, the cardboard tray that holds the cartridge, the instruction manual, and the standard Nintendo paperwork inserts of the era. N64 boxes are thin cardboard that crushes and tears easily, so box condition drives most of the spread between CIB listings. "Game and box" listings with no manual still land in the feed. Read the title and photos before treating one as complete.
Sealed copies are rare and are usually priced as collectibles, often graded. Expect the Sealed chip to be empty much of the time. That means there are few listings, not that the page is broken.
Manual-only, box-only, strategy-guide and "no game" listings are filtered out, so everything in the feed should include the cartridge.
Spotting Mario Golf N64 reproductions
The feed drops listings that call themselves repro, reproduction or aftermarket (plus the whole-word shorthand repo). A seller who lists a bootleg as authentic will still get through, so check it yourself:
- The screw on the back. Authentic N64 carts use a Nintendo security screw. A Phillips screw means the cart has been opened. That might be honest cleaning, or it might be a reshell or bootleg, so ask the seller why.
- Label print. Compare the label against a high-resolution photo of a known-authentic US Mario Golf cart. Watch for blurry or oversaturated art, off-centre placement, or a label that looks much newer than the shell.
- "Brand New" at a loose price. A new-condition copy priced like a used loose cart is almost never an authentic factory copy.
Mario Golf N64 verification checklist by condition
Loose
- Check the back screw and compare the label against a known-authentic US photo.
- Make sure it's the US release, not the Japanese Mario Golf 64 (see above).
- Ask what "tested" means. Booting to the title screen is the minimum. Ask whether a saved game survives a power cycle.
- On ex-rental carts, check that the store sticker hasn't torn the label underneath.
CIB
- Make sure the box and manual are US English originals, not a US cart in a Japanese box or a reproduction box. Titles saying "replacement box only" are filtered out, but a reproduction box sold with a real cart can still get through.
- Check for the cardboard tray. It goes missing more often than any other part.
- Ask for photos of the bare box if it's in an acrylic protector, because the plastic hides crushed corners and edge wear.
Sealed
- Buy graded where you can, and check the certificate number with the grading company's online lookup.
- Treat raw "sealed" copies with suspicion. Resealing is the main forgery risk at this price level, and a seal is hard to verify from photos.
Mario Golf N64 buying gotchas
- The Japanese cart at a too-good price is the most common trap. It won't fit a US console without an adapter. See the regional section above.
- The Game Boy Color game shares the title. Listings for the GBC Mario Golf are filtered out here, but if you shop eBay directly, check the platform before you buy.
- Lots and bundles. Mario Golf often turns up in N64 lots with Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, Mario Tennis or Mario Party. Those are filtered out so the per-game prices stay accurate.
- Manuals, empty boxes and guides sell separately under the game's name. The feed filters them, but read any listing priced well below a loose cart closely.
- "Untested" or "as is" listings are filtered out, because a dead cart is the usual reason a seller won't test.
Buying Nintendo 64 games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Nintendo 64 cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
