How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 43 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 33 of 43 (~77%) for quality reasons. The remaining 10 are what we'd actually surface.
- 14 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 8 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 6 shipped from a region we exclude
- 4 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 seller had too few feedback ratings
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Ogre Battle 64 (N64) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 100 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Ogre Battle 64 (N64) because they are: that's the noise.

Ogre Battle 64: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Region and release. This is the US release of Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber, published by Atlus in 2000. A Japanese cartridge exists and sells for a fraction of the US price, and many Japanese listings carry the full English title. The feed filters them out. Confirm the listing says US/NTSC-U and the label matches.
- Saves. Progress is kept on the cartridge. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and cells this old routinely fail. Budget for a battery swap whatever the seller says, and prefer listings that mention a save test.
- Print variants. We don't claim to know distinguishing marks between prints. Compare the label and back of the cart against a known authentic photo, and ask the seller for close-ups.
- Listing traps we saw. Very cheap "USA Version English Language" cartridges from generic retro-game sellers sit far below the going asking range for a working copy. Treat them as suspect. Separately, box-only, manual-only and loose registration-card listings carry the full game title, so read for "only" before bidding.
- Sealed and graded. Third-party graded sealed copies list at a large multiple of the raw-copy range and are priced as collectibles, not players.
- Not the same game. The SNES Ogre Battle is a different title, and the Tactics Ogre games share words with it.
Buying Nintendo 64 games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Nintendo 64 cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
