Exact SKU identity. This is the Quadro RTX 4000 with 8GB of GDDR6, a workstation card. It is not the RTX 4000 Ada (a newer, different card with a larger memory size) and not the RTX A4000 (a separate card; see the RTX A4000 16GB page if that is the one you want). The names are close enough that sellers mix them up, so check the model string character by character and ask for a GPU-Z screenshot rather than trusting the title.
Variants & value impact. Many used units are pulled from Dell, HP and Lenovo workstations and carry OEM part numbers instead of PNY's retail packaging. Ask whether an OEM card has been tested in a generic desktop, not just the chassis it came from. Plenty of listings leave "8GB" out of the title, so read the item specifics for the memory size.
Listing traps. The most common one is the laptop version: Precision, ZBook and ThinkPad boards carry the same name but are mobile modules that will not fit a desktop slot. Titles that name several Quadro generations at once are a sign of this. Faceplates and shrouds that carry the card's name also turn up at a fraction of the card's price.

- Ask for a screenshot of a monitoring tool (such as GPU-Z) showing the exact model and memory size, plus a stress test or benchmark run with temperatures visible.
- Ask whether the card was used for mining. Mining wear is mostly fans and thermal pads, which are fixable, but it should be disclosed and priced in.
- Check the photos for bent fins, missing screws, broken fan blades and damaged power connectors.
- Confirm whether the manufacturer warranty transfers. It varies by brand and is tied to the serial number.
Refurbished
- Find out who refurbished it (the manufacturer or a third party) and how long the warranty is.
- Ask what was replaced. A repaste and new pads is routine; a replaced core or memory is not.
New
- Check that the box is factory sealed and the serial on the box matches the card, so warranty registration works.
- Very low prices on "new" cards from new seller accounts are the most common scam on this category.
