How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 392 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 337 of 392 (~86%) for quality reasons. The remaining 55 are what we'd actually surface.
- 281 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 23 shipped from a region we exclude
- 15 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 8 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 4 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 4 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 2 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Final Fantasy III (SNES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 113 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Final Fantasy III (SNES) because they are: that's the noise.

Final Fantasy III: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Which game this is. The US Final Fantasy III on Super Nintendo is the game released in Japan as Final Fantasy VI. The Japanese game called Final Fantasy III is a different, earlier Famicom title. A listing that says "Final Fantasy III" alongside Famicom or Japan is that other game, not this cart.
- Product code and saves. US carts carry an
SNS-product code on the back label. Check it matches the US release. The game saves to battery-backed memory on the cart. The original battery is a flat coin cell, and cells this old often fail, so budget for a swap whatever the seller says. "Made in Japan" printed on a US cart is normal and not a warning sign. - What CIB means here. Sellers describe the box, manual and a fold-out map/poster as the complete set. The map is the piece most often missing, and many "CIB" or "in box" listings say "no map". Ask for it in the photos before paying a complete-copy price.
- Paper-only listings. The manual, the map/poster, the box, strategy guides and Squaresoft promo mailers all sell on their own, often at asking prices close to a loose cart. Read the title for "only" before you buy.
- Former rentals. Rental-store copies with stickers on the label turn up. They're authentic carts, but the stickers lower their cosmetic value.
Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Super Nintendo cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
