How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 10168 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 10021 of 10168 (~99%) for quality reasons. The remaining 147 are what we'd actually surface.
- 9755 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 110 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 100 shipped from a region we exclude
- 18 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 17 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 11 priced above the curated ceiling
- 7 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
- 3 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Final Fantasy (NES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 159 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Final Fantasy (NES) because they are: that's the noise.

Final Fantasy: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Which game this is. The US NES cart is the first Final Fantasy, released in North America in 1990. Sellers often add "1" or "I" to the title. Listings that also say Famicom, Japan or "I II" are Japanese carts, a different release, and this feed leaves them out.
- Product code and saves. Check that the product code on the label and box matches the US release. Sellers also list a Canadian variant under its own code. The game saves to battery-backed memory on the cart. Batteries this old fail often, so budget for a replacement whatever the seller says.
- What CIB means here. Sellers describe a complete copy as the box, the Explorer's Handbook manual and the fold-out maps. The maps go missing most often, and plenty of boxed listings say "no map". Ask to see them in the photos before you pay a complete-copy price.
- Paper-only listings. The handbook, the maps and the Nintendo Power strategy guide sell on their own, sometimes for as much as a loose cart. Check the title for "only" or "no game" before buying.
- Later sequels. Final Fantasy III on SNES is a different game and has its own page.
Buying NES games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every NES cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
