How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 27 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 8 of 27 (~30%) for quality reasons. The remaining 19 are what we'd actually surface.
- 3 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 3 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Comix Zone (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 97 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Comix Zone (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Comix Zone: collector & reseller spec sheet
Sega Technical Institute's 1995 comic-book brawler is a late-era Genesis release, and asking prices show it: loose carts ask well above the typical Genesis game, and complete copies and factory-sealed copies sit in much higher tiers.
- Save mechanism. None. It's a straight cartridge game with no save battery. Check that the label and box match the US Genesis release.
- CIB and the bonus CD. Many complete listings mention a bonus CD and catalog, while others say "no CD" or "missing bonus CD". Read the title and photos closely, because a complete-in-box copy with the CD and one without it are asking very different amounts. The platform checklist covers the generic box and manual checks.
- Print variants. Listings mention Not For Resale copies; treat any claimed print or variant premium as the seller's assertion until the photos show it.
- Listing traps. Sealed copies are often graded slabs (CGC, VGA, PSA/WATA), so compare the grade and cert before comparing the price. The feed also rejects "Easy Mode Edition" and other hack listings, plus empty cases and shells sold under the game's name.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
