How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 3 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 2 of 3 (~67%) for quality reasons. The remaining 1 are what we'd actually surface.
- 2 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Target Earth (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 92 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Target Earth (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Target Earth: collector & reseller spec sheet
- What it is: Target Earth is the North American name of the 1990 mech shooter released in Japan as Assault Suit Leynos (Mega Drive). This page tracks the US Genesis release.
- Import confusion: Listings that say "Assault Suit Leynos", "Mega Drive" or a Japanese product number are the Japanese cart. It is a different region and prices separately, so the feed leaves those out.
- Print variants: Check that the label and product code on a cart match the US release. Beyond that, we don't track a documented variant or reprint tier for this title, so treat "rare print" claims in a listing as the seller's word.
- Listing traps: Case-only, box-only and manual-only listings use the full game title and sit at low asking prices. Confirm the listing says the cartridge is included before treating a cheap price as a deal.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
