Streets of Rage 3: collector & reseller spec sheet
Sega's 1994 Genesis beat 'em up is far scarcer than Streets of Rage 2, so even ordinary loose carts ask well above most of the library. Boxed and complete copies climb from there, and graded or factory-sealed copies sit in a separate, much higher tier.
- Save mechanism. None that we know of: no battery or save chip to budget for. Check that the label and box match the US Genesis release.
- Complete means more than the box. Many "CIB" listings are really box and game with no manual, and sellers say so in the title. Read the title for "no manual" before comparing against complete asking prices.
- Fan hacks sold under the game's name. The most common trap while tuning was a run of new-made carts titled "Streets of Rage 3 x [another franchise]" or "[franchise] Edition", often with a printed case and cover art. They aren't Sega carts, and the feed drops them.
- Not to be confused with. "Bare Knuckle III" is the Japanese release, often listed with the English title in the same breath. This page tracks US copies and excludes it. Multi-game packs that merely include the title are excluded too.

Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition

Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
