How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 33 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 13 of 33 (~39%) for quality reasons. The remaining 20 are what we'd actually surface.
- 8 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 2 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 shipped from a region we exclude
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 105 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Contra: Hard Corps: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release: Konami's 1994 Genesis run-and-gun, a different game from the NES Contra and Contra III. Outside North America it shipped as Probotector, so many "Hard Corps" listings are PAL or Mega Drive copies. This feed filters Mega Drive, Probotector and Japan-located listings.
- Product code: check that the label's product code and region marking match the US release. Compare against a known authentic photo before paying a premium.
- Print variants: listings in this feed mention a Konami original and a Majesco reprint, plus "cardboard box" and "hard case" packaging variants. Which one carries a premium is not settled here, so ask the seller to show the cart label and box.
- Listing traps: reprint art and reproduction cases are sold as "authentic game and case". A "reprint artwork" label in the title means the case and insert are not original. Standalone manuals, inserts and empty cases are also common, so check the listing is for the game.
- Graded copies: sealed and graded copies carry asking prices many times higher than loose or CIB. Read the grader's name and grade, not just "sealed".
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
