How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 16 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 8 of 16 (~50%) for quality reasons. The remaining 8 are what we'd actually surface.
- 6 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 shipped from a region we exclude
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Herzog Zwei (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 93 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Herzog Zwei (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Herzog Zwei: collector & reseller spec sheet
- What it is: a real-time strategy/action hybrid from Technosoft, released for the Mega Drive in Japan in 1989 and published for the Genesis in North America by Sega in 1990. This page tracks the US Genesis release only.
- Save mechanism: there is no save to worry about, so there is no battery to fail. Verify the cart boots and plays through a full match before paying a premium.
- Print variants: collectors may talk about different prints and labels, but check a seller's photos against a known authentic US copy rather than trusting a "rare variant" claim. Price differences between prints are not something this page tracks.
- Region confusion: Japanese Mega Drive and other-region copies are often listed under "Genesis" in the title. The US cart's label and the product code should say Genesis and NTSC-U/C, so ask for a label photo when the title says "Mega Drive".
- Listing traps seen while tuning: box-only and artwork-only listings sit at low asking prices next to real carts. Read the title for "box only" or "cover only" before getting excited.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
