How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 200 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 176 of 200 (~88%) for quality reasons. The remaining 24 are what we'd actually surface.
- 159 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 10 shipped from a region we exclude
- 3 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 3 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 1 caught by a junk-listing guard
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Golden Axe (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 112 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Golden Axe (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Golden Axe: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release & save: Sega's arcade beat 'em up reached the Genesis in 1989 as an arcade-style port with no save feature, so there is no save battery to worry about. Check that the product code on the label matches the US release.
- Print variants: An early-run retail print and a later Sega Classics budget reprint both exist, and sellers often write "Sega Classic" in the title. Ask for label and box photos before paying a premium for either.
- Listing traps seen in this feed:
- Genesis 6-Pak compilation carts put "Golden Axe" in the title next to Sonic and Streets of Rage. They are a different product, so check the label reads Golden Axe alone.
- Posters, inserts and empty cases use the game and console names. Look for "poster only", "case only" or "manual only" before you buy.
- Not to be confused with Golden Axe II and III, which are separate games sharing the title.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
