Shinobi III: collector & reseller spec sheet
Sega's 1993 Genesis action platformer is one of the console's pricier first-party carts, so even loose copies ask well above the typical Genesis game. Complete copies and factory-sealed copies sit in much higher tiers.
- Save mechanism. None. It's a straight cartridge game with no save battery. Check that the label and box match the US Genesis release.
- Print variants. An early-run retail print and later reprints may exist; treat any claimed print premium as the seller's assertion until the photos show it.
- Title spelling. Sellers write "Shinobi III", "Shinobi 3" and "Shinobi 3 III". The feed accepts all three, and rejects the other Shinobi games on the console (The Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer).
- Japan listings. Mega Drive and "MIJ" copies turn up under the same title and ask differently from US cartridges. The feed filters them, since this page tracks US copies.
- Graded sealed. Third-party graded sealed copies ask far above ordinary sealed ones; read the grade and the seller's photos before comparing the two.

Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
