X-Men: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Saves: don't pay extra for a "new battery" claim unless the seller shows the cart actually saves. Check that the product code on the label matches the US release.
- Sequel confusion: X-Men 2: Clone Wars is a separate, later Genesis game that sellers often shorthand as "X-Men 2". It is not this game and is filtered out of this feed. Likewise Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge is a different cartridge; check the title on the label, not just the franchise.
- Poster and extras: sellers regularly mention whether a poster is included, in either direction ("no poster" is common in complete listings). Treat a poster as an extra to ask about, not a guaranteed part of every complete copy.
- Listing traps: listings that only say "X-Men (Sega Genesis)" with no photos of the label may be the sequel or the Spider-Man crossover. Ask for a photo of the cart label before buying.

Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
