How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 193 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 165 of 193 (~85%) for quality reasons. The remaining 28 are what we'd actually surface.
- 144 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 11 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 6 shipped from a region we exclude
- 2 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 1 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Road Rash (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 104 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Road Rash (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Road Rash: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Which game this is. The original Road Rash, Electronic Arts' motorcycle racer for the Sega Genesis, released in 1991. Road Rash II and Road Rash 3 are separate Genesis releases with their own prices, and both are kept out of this feed. Listings titled "Road Rash 1 & 2" or "1 2 3" are multi-game sets, so they are filtered too.
- Print variants. Different print runs and label styles may exist, and we have not documented which marks separate them. Ask for clear photos of the label and the product code, and compare them with a known authentic copy before paying more for a "rare" variant.
- Listing traps seen while tuning.
- Cases, boxes and manuals listed alone under the game's name. They are easy to buy by mistake when the photo is of a cart.
- Japanese Mega Drive copies, which often ask more than a US cart. The feed excludes Japan-located sellers and any title saying Japan or Japanese.
- Sequels and multi-game sets that mention "Road Rash" in the title.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
