How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 40 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 30 of 40 (~75%) for quality reasons. The remaining 10 are what we'd actually surface.
- 24 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 6 shipped from a region we exclude
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Shining Force II (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 105 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Shining Force II (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Shining Force II: collector & reseller spec sheet
Sega released Shining Force II for the Genesis in North America in 1994, and most listings carry "(Sega Genesis, 1994)" in the title. Sellers write the number both ways ("II" and "2"), often together, so the feed accepts either.
- Save mechanism. Battery-backed save. The original cell is around 30 years old, and "drained battery" listings turn up. Budget for a battery swap whatever the seller claims, and check that the label and box match the US Genesis release.
- Japanese Mega Drive copies from US sellers. The Japanese release is subtitled "Inishie no Fuuin" (The Ancient Seal) and asks far less. Several are listed with "US Seller" in the title or carry "Genesis" as a search word, so read past the shipping location. The feed drops Mega Drive, Japanese and PAL copies.
- Same-name siblings. The original Shining Force is a separate Genesis cart, and the Game Gear "Shining Force Gaiden II" and the Saturn "Shining Force III" both reuse the numeral. Check the photos show the Genesis Shining Force II cartridge. Empty custom cases and manual-only listings also use the full title; the feed excludes them.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
