How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 7 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 5 of 7 (~71%) for quality reasons. The remaining 2 are what we'd actually surface.
- 3 shipped from a region we exclude
- 2 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 94 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Wily Wars: collector & reseller spec sheet
- What the games are. Mega Man: The Wily Wars remakes the first three NES Mega Man games for the Mega Drive, plus a new Wily Tower mode. It was a 1994 Mega Drive release that never had a standard retail cartridge in North America.
- Why most US listings are the Collector's Edition. The Genesis copies sold in the US today are the 2021-2022 Collector's Edition from Retro-Bit and Limited Run Games, sold as a new Genesis cartridge with extras such as cards. Titles often say "NTSC-U/C". Because it is a modern release, sealed copies dominate the feed and asking prices are set by that run, not by 1990s retail.
- Original Mega Drive carts. Original-era cartridges exist as PAL and Japanese Mega Drive releases. This page tracks the North American Genesis release, so PAL and Japan-located listings are filtered out rather than priced alongside it.
- Print variants. Retro-Bit and Limited Run Games versions are both listed under the same title. Check what the seller says is included (cards, box, outer packaging) before comparing asking prices.
- Listing traps. Cheap "reproduction", "Enhanced" and "DX Special Edition" cartridges circulate at far below Collector's Edition asking prices. A low price on a new-condition copy is a red flag, not a deal. Graded copies carry their own premium; read the grade in the title.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
