How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 34 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 28 of 34 (~82%) for quality reasons. The remaining 6 are what we'd actually surface.
- 15 shipped from a region we exclude
- 13 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Thunder Force III (Genesis) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 97 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Thunder Force III (Genesis) because they are: that's the noise.

Thunder Force III: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release: Technosoft's side-scrolling shooter, released on the Genesis in North America in 1990. This page tracks the US Genesis release only.
- Product code: check that the code printed on the label matches the US release before paying a premium.
- Print variants: don't assume a particular print or label variant moves the price. Ask for clear photos of the label and the back of the cartridge, and compare them with a known authentic copy.
- Title spellings: sellers write "Thunder Force III", "Thunder Force 3" and "ThunderForce 3". The feed matches all of them.
- Series mix-ups: the Thunder Force series has several entries, and sellers sometimes list two or more in one title. Read the whole title for a sequel number before assuming a listing is this game.
- Complete copies: manuals are often sold on their own. A "manual only" listing is not a game, so check exactly what the title says is included before you pay a CIB asking price.
Buying Sega Genesis games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Sega Genesis cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and plastic case and cover art are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
