How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 2071 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 2007 of 2071 (~97%) for quality reasons. The remaining 64 are what we'd actually surface.
- 1695 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 296 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 5 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 5 shipped from a region we exclude
- 4 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
- 1 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 1 priced above the curated ceiling
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Mortal Kombat (SNES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 137 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Mortal Kombat (SNES) because they are: that's the noise.

Mortal Kombat: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Release: the SNES version of the first Mortal Kombat came out in 1993, published by Acclaim. It is a cartridge fighting game, and the feed targets US (NTSC) copies.
- Product code & saves: check that the product code on the label ends in the US region marker and matches the game. This page does not list a specific code. Treat any seller who won't show the label as a risk.
- Version quirk that matters for buyers: the SNES release is the toned-down Nintendo-era port, so "uncensored" claims on a SNES listing deserve a second look.
- Print variants: early retail and later reprints may exist, but we don't name distinguishing marks here. Compare label photos against a known authentic copy before paying a premium for a "first print".
- Listing trap #1, sequel titles: Mortal Kombat II, 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 reuse the same words in their titles, often with the number placed late or left off the photo. The feed rejects titles naming a sequel, but check the label in the photos on any bare "Mortal Kombat SNES" listing. For the second game, see Mortal Kombat II (SNES).
- Listing trap #2, same-name ports: the original game also shipped on Genesis and Game Boy under the identical title, and sellers sometimes mix platform names in the title. The feed filters titles naming those systems, so confirm the cart in the photos is a Super Nintendo cart.
Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Super Nintendo cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
