How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 858 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 715 of 858 (~83%) for quality reasons. The remaining 143 are what we'd actually surface.
- 662 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 18 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 16 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 8 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
- 6 shipped from a region we exclude
- 4 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 1 wrong condition (e.g. parts-only)
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Super Mario Kart (SNES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 114 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Super Mario Kart (SNES) because they are: that's the noise.

Super Mario Kart: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Battery save. The cart keeps time-trial records on a battery-backed save. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and after 30 years many have failed. A cart that plays fine can still lose its records, so expect to pay for a battery swap whatever the listing says. "Tested & saves" in a title is worth more than "tested".
- Product code. US carts carry an
SNS-code on the label. Super Famicom copies use anSHVC-code and a different cart shape. Check that the label is the US release before paying US asking. - Original print vs Player's Choice. Nintendo issued Super Mario Kart as an original retail print and later as a Player's Choice budget reprint, and sellers label both. Loose carts of the two ask about the same. On boxed copies the original print usually asks more.
- Imports listed as "SNES". Japanese Super Famicom copies are often titled "Super Mario Kart SNES Japan" at a fraction of US asking. PAL copies are often tagged "NOE" or "EUR". Both are region-different carts, and the feed leaves them out. Also out: "custom" and other non-original carts, and the console-bundle Grand Prix Pack.
Not to be confused with the N64 sequel, Mario Kart 64. Super Mario Kart is often sold in lots with Super Mario World, and the feed leaves those lots out so per-game asking prices stay accurate.
Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Super Nintendo cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
