How we filter
Every feed has its own filter, tuned by hand for this one game. Before any change goes live, those filters are tested against thousands of real eBay listing titles. Every night, each feed is checked against every other deal page in its category, so a listing for a different game that slips in gets flagged and fixed instead of quietly shown.
Of the 515 listings we observed for this game in the last 30 days, we filtered out 412 of 515 (~80%) for quality reasons. The remaining 103 are what we'd actually surface.
- 388 matched a bootleg / out-of-scope keyword
- 14 caught by a junk-listing guard
- 3 seller had too few feedback ratings
- 3 priced below our floor (too good to be true)
- 2 shipped from a region we exclude
- 2 seller positive-feedback percentage too low
What the feed excludes
An eBay search for Yoshi's Island (SNES) returns far more than the game itself: controllers, T-shirts, strategy guides, imports and repro carts all mention it in their titles. These are the 98 terms we filter out to keep this feed to the real thing. A listing whose title contains any of them never reaches the feed, the price table or an alert. Many look unrelated to Yoshi's Island (SNES) because they are: that's the noise.

Yoshi's Island: collector & reseller spec sheet
- Full title and hardware. The US release is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (1995), the sequel-in-name to Super Mario World. The cart carries Nintendo's Super FX 2 chip, so a reshell or board swap from a cheaper game cannot pass as the real thing once it boots.
- Save mechanism. Progress saves to battery-backed memory on the cart. The original save battery is a flat coin cell, and 30-year-old cells routinely fail. "New battery" and "tested save" listings ask more than untested carts, so budget for a battery swap regardless of seller claims.
- Product code. Check that the code printed on the label matches the US release. Japanese carts list under codes like SHVC-YI and use a different cart shape.
- Listing traps seen while tuning. Super Famicom copies dominate search results at a fraction of the US asking price and often put "SNES" in the title. Manual-only and empty-box listings reuse the full game title. Super NES console bundles named after the game and listings for the Game Boy Advance port (Super Mario Advance 3) share the same words. Graded sealed copies list in a separate tier far above raw copies.
Buying Super Nintendo games: what to check by condition
These checks apply to every Super Nintendo cartridge. The item notes above cover what is specific to this game.
Loose
- Compare the label, shell color and front/back markings against a photo of a known-authentic cart. Repro labels are often glossier, blurrier or slightly off-color.
- Ask for a photo of the board or the back of the cart. An opened shell is not automatically bad (battery swaps are normal), but it should be disclosed.
- If the game saves to a battery, ask whether the save holds. Old save batteries fail with age regardless of what the listing says, so budget for a replacement.
CIB (complete in box)
- Confirm the box, manual and inner tray or insert are all shown in the photos, not just listed in the title.
- Check that the box and manual are the same region and print as the cart. Mixed-and-matched "complete" copies are common.
- Box wear (crushing, tears, sticker residue) moves price far more than the cart does. Judge it from photos, not from the word "mint".
Sealed & graded
- For a graded copy, look the certification number up on the grading company's own site and confirm the photos match the slab you are buying.
- For an ungraded sealed copy, compare the wrap and seal pattern against a known factory-sealed example. Resealing is common, and a reseal on a loose game is worth a loose price.
- Ask for photos of every side, the seams and any price stickers. Refusing extra photos on a sealed listing is a red flag on its own.
